Many of Ralph's paintings were inspired by the landscape of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland that he visited on holiday. He was greatly attracted to the ever-changing light on the hills and water, the cloud formations and the patterns on the sea.
He also painted the woods and countryside nearer his home that he encountered on his daily walks.
